Fibercement, The METU students meet ‘the MODULATOR’.

The fiber cement material which is manufactured by Hekim Yapı A.Ş. of our Hekim Holding group under the brand name of Hekimboard has found life with ‘the MODULATOR’ and became a representative of the changing face of architecture with its numerical design and manufacturing technology. In this study which is carried out in a studio in the Department of Architecture of Middle East Technical University (METU) by Associate Professor Dr. Arzu Gönenç Sorguç with the support of Associate Professor Dr. Mine Özkar and Research Assistant Fatma Zehra Çakıcı, together with the students Cem Korkmaz, Belamir Köse, Fırat Özgenel, and Matte Csocsics, ‘the Modulator’ is designed and prepared as a response to environmental conditions parametrically; and it is at the same time is a sample of a new understanding of structure.
The Project Executive Associate Professor Dr. Arzu Gönenç Sorguç indicates that this design which is obtained by adding pieces that are cut from the natural fibre supported fibrecement with numerical control reduces the material loss to a minimum through machine sensitivity, and it conforms to the conditions of the environment, and it is also the result of an understanding of design based on performance. Ms. Sorguç adds that this is also an indication of an understanding of contemporary education, which forms the mission of the Department of Architecture of METU (Middle East Technical University).
